Project overview
Shibam is a visual identity project inspired by a 16th-century Yemeni city known as the Manhattan of the desert. The design draws from Shibam's defining characteristics — its towering mud-brick high-rises and fortified urban grid — translating centuries-old architecture into a contemporary graphic language.
Challenges
The main challenge was finding a visual vocabulary that felt rooted in the place without being decorative or illustrative.
Results
The visual elements used throughout are geometric forms from the vertical buildings in the city and the shape of the traditional hat worn in the Hadramaut area in Yemen.
